Discomfort with Orthodontic Treatment

During the first week you have your braces, you will likely feel some soreness or discomfort. Also, after you have your braces adjusted or tightened, the teeth may also be sore for a day or two. Please take paracetamol (eg Panadol) if you need to: follow the directions on the packet.

If you break or loosen any part of your appliances, please call us as soon as possible. Please do not just come directly to the practice; by calling us, you will allow us to find a time to see you that suits us both.

Even if you have a regular appointment scheduled, call us immediately to let us know if you have a breakage so that we can set aside more time, and get things ready for the repair.

Sometimes the end of the arch wire can be sharp, causing an ulcer; often the wire can be moved so that it does not irritate your cheek or gum. If the wire will not move, try covering the end of it with a small piece of wax or sugar-free chewing gum.

If the problem persists, please call us so that we can arrange a time to see you that suits us both.

Lost Separators

Separators sometimes fall out once they have done their job. Please call us to see if your separator needs to be replaced: we will arrange a time to see you if necessary.
